《诗》云:"瞻彼淇澳(ao),侵疋(ya)⑩。有斐君子,如切如(ru)磋(cuo),如琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄(xuan)兮。有斐君(jun1)子,终(zhong)不(bu)可召(zhao)猓""如(ru)切如(ru)磋"者,道学也。"如琢如(ru)磨"者,自(zi)修也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也。"赫兮喧(xuan)兮"者(zhe),威仪也。"有(you)斐君子,终不(bu)可召"者,道盛德(de)至善,民之不能(neng)忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不(bu)忘(wang)!"君子(zi)贤其贤(xian)而亲其(qi)亲,小人乐(le)其乐而利(li)其利,此以没世不忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)德。"《大甲(jia)》曰:"顾天(tian)之明命。"《帝典》曰:"克(ke)明(ming)峻德。"皆自明也。汤之(zhi)《盘铭(ming)》曰:"苟日新(xin),日(ri)日新,又日新。"《康诰》曰:"作(zuo)新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦,其命(ming)惟新。"是故(gu)君子无所不用(yong)其(qi)极。《诗(shi)》云:"邦畿千里(li),惟民(min)所止。"《诗》云(yun):"缗蛮(man)黄鸟(niao),止于丘隅(yu)。"子曰(yue):"于(yu)止(zhi),知其所止。可以人而不(bu)如鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于(yu)缉熙敬止!"为人君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣(chen),止于敬(jing);为人子,止于孝(xiao);为人父,止(zhi)于慈;与国人交,止(zhi)于(yu)信。子曰:"听(ting)讼(song),吾犹(you)人也。必(bi)也(ye)使(shi)无讼(song)乎!"无情(qing)者(zhe)不得尽(jin)其辞,大畏民志。此谓知本。
