《诗(shi)》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳(ao),侵疋⑩。有斐君子,如切如磋,如琢如磨(mo)。瑟兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄兮。有斐君子,终(zhong)不(bu)可(ke)召(zhao)猓""如切(qie)如磋"者(zhe),道学(xue)也(ye)。"如(ru)琢如磨(mo)"者,自修也(ye)。"瑟兮(xi)兮(xi)"者,恂也。"赫兮喧兮"者(zhe),威(wei)仪也。"有(you)斐君(jun1)子,终不(bu)可(ke)召"者,道盛德至善(shan),民之不能忘也。《诗(shi)》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤其贤而亲其亲,小人乐其乐(le)而利(li)其(qi)利,此以没世不(bu)忘也。《康诰(gao)》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天(tian)之明命。"《帝(di)典》曰:"克明峻德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘铭》曰:"苟日新,日日新,又(you)日新。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰:"作(zuo)新民(min)。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧邦,其(qi)命(ming)惟新。"是故(gu)君子无所(suo)不用其极。《诗》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民(min)所止。"《诗》云:"缗蛮黄鸟(niao),止于丘隅。"子曰:"于(yu)止,知其(qi)所止(zhi)。可以人而不如鸟乎?"《诗》云:"穆(mu)穆文王(wang),于(yu)缉熙(xi)敬止!"为(wei)人君,止(zhi)于仁;为人(ren)臣(chen),止于敬;为人子,止于(yu)孝;为人父(fu),止于慈;与(yu)国(guo)人交,止于信。子曰(yue):"听讼,吾犹人(ren)也(ye)。必也(ye)使(shi)无讼(song)乎!"无情(qing)者(zhe)不得尽(jin)其辞,大畏民(min)志(zhi)。此谓(wei)知本。
