《诗》云:"瞻彼(bi)淇澳,侵疋⑩。有斐(fei)君(jun1)子,如(ru)切如(ru)磋,如(ru)琢如磨(mo)。瑟(se)兮(xi)兮,赫兮暄兮。有(you)斐君(jun1)子,终不可(ke)召(zhao)猓""如(ru)切如磋"者,道学也。"如琢如(ru)磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也。"赫兮喧兮"者(zhe),威(wei)仪(yi)也。"有斐(fei)君子,终(zhong)不可召(zhao)"者,道(dao)盛(sheng)德(de)至(zhi)善(shan),民(min)之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前(qian)王不忘!"君子贤其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小(xiao)人乐其(qi)乐(le)而利其利,此以没世不(bu)忘也。《康诰》曰(yue):"克明德(de)。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天之明(ming)命。"《帝典》曰(yue):"克(ke)明峻德。"皆自明也(ye)。汤(tang)之《盘铭》曰(yue):"苟(gou)日新,日日(ri)新(xin),又日(ri)新。"《康诰》曰:"作(zuo)新民。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽(sui)旧邦,其命惟(wei)新。"是故君子无所不用其极。《诗》云(yun):"邦畿(ji)千里,惟(wei)民所止。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗蛮黄(huang)鸟,止于(yu)丘隅。"子曰:"于止,知(zhi)其所止。可(ke)以(yi)人而(er)不如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王(wang),于(yu)缉熙(xi)敬止!"为人君(jun1),止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止于敬;为人子,止于(yu)孝;为人父,止于慈;与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也(ye)。必也使无讼乎(hu)!"无情(qing)者不(bu)得(de)尽其(qi)辞,大(da)畏民志。此谓知本。
