《诗》云:"瞻彼(bi)淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有斐君子(zi),如切如磋,如琢如(ru)磨。瑟(se)兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄(xuan)兮(xi)。有(you)斐君子,终不(bu)可召猓""如切如磋"者(zhe),道(dao)学也。"如琢如磨"者,自(zi)修(xiu)也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也。"赫(he)兮(xi)喧兮(xi)"者,威(wei)仪(yi)也。"有斐君子,终不可召"者,道(dao)盛德至善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云(yun):"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人乐其(qi)乐(le)而(er)利其利,此以没世不(bu)忘也。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克明德。"《大甲》曰(yue):"顾天之明(ming)命(ming)。"《帝(di)典》曰:"克(ke)明峻德。"皆自明(ming)也。汤之(zhi)《盘铭》曰(yue):"苟(gou)日新,日日(ri)新,又(you)日新。"《康诰》曰:"作(zuo)新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦,其命(ming)惟(wei)新。"是故君子无所不用其极。《诗》云(yun):"邦畿千(qian)里,惟民所(suo)止(zhi)。"《诗》云:"缗蛮(man)黄鸟,止于丘隅(yu)。"子曰:"于止(zhi),知(zhi)其所止(zhi)。可(ke)以人而不(bu)如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于(yu)缉熙敬止!"为人君,止于仁;为(wei)人臣(chen),止于敬;为人(ren)子(zi),止于孝;为人父,止(zhi)于慈;与国人(ren)交(jiao),止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹(you)人也(ye)。必也使(shi)无讼乎!"无情者不(bu)得(de)尽其(qi)辞,大畏民志。此谓知(zhi)本(ben)。
