《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳,侵疋⑩。有斐君(jun1)子,如切如(ru)磋(cuo),如琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄(xuan)兮。有(you)斐(fei)君子,终(zhong)不可(ke)召(zhao)猓""如切(qie)如磋"者,道学也。"如(ru)琢如磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮(xi)兮"者(zhe),恂也。"赫兮喧兮"者,威(wei)仪也。"有斐君子(zi),终(zhong)不可召(zhao)"者,道盛德至善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤(xian)其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人乐其乐而利其(qi)利,此以(yi)没世不(bu)忘也。《康诰》曰:"克明德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天之明命(ming)。"《帝典》曰(yue):"克明(ming)峻(jun4)德。"皆自(zi)明也。汤(tang)之《盘铭》曰(yue):"苟日(ri)新,日日新(xin),又日(ri)新。"《康诰》曰:"作(zuo)新民。"《诗》曰:"周虽旧邦(bang),其命惟新(xin)。"是故(gu)君子(zi)无(wu)所(suo)不用(yong)其极(ji)。《诗(shi)》云:"邦(bang)畿(ji)千(qian)里,惟民所止(zhi)。"《诗》云:"缗(min)蛮(man)黄(huang)鸟,止于丘(qiu)隅。"子曰:"于止(zhi),知其所(suo)止。可以人而不如鸟(niao)乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文王,于缉熙敬止!"为(wei)人君,止于仁;为(wei)人臣,止于(yu)敬;为(wei)人子,止于孝;为人父(fu),止于慈;与国人交(jiao),止于信。子曰:"听讼,吾(wu)犹人(ren)也。必也(ye)使(shi)无讼(song)乎(hu)!"无(wu)情者(zhe)不得尽其辞,大畏民志。此谓知本。
