《诗》云(yun):"瞻彼(bi)淇(qi)澳(ao),侵疋⑩。有斐君(jun1)子,如切如磋,如(ru)琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄兮。有斐君子,终不可(ke)召猓""如切如(ru)磋"者,道学(xue)也。"如琢(zhuo)如磨"者,自修(xiu)也(ye)。"瑟兮兮"者,恂也。"赫(he)兮喧(xuan)兮"者,威仪也。"有(you)斐君(jun1)子(zi),终(zhong)不可召"者,道盛(sheng)德至善,民之(zhi)不能忘也(ye)。《诗》云:"于(yu)戏前王不忘!"君子(zi)贤其贤(xian)而亲其亲,小人乐其乐而利其利,此以没(mei)世不忘(wang)也(ye)。《康(kang)诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天之明命。"《帝典》曰:"克明峻德。"皆自明也(ye)。汤之(zhi)《盘(pan)铭》曰:"苟日新(xin),日日新,又日新。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰:"作新民。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧(jiu)邦,其命(ming)惟(wei)新。"是故(gu)君(jun1)子无(wu)所不(bu)用其极。《诗(shi)》云:"邦(bang)畿千里,惟民(min)所止(zhi)。"《诗(shi)》云:"缗(min)蛮(man)黄鸟,止于丘隅。"子曰:"于止,知其所(suo)止。可(ke)以人而不如(ru)鸟(niao)乎?"《诗》云:"穆穆文(wen)王,于(yu)缉熙敬止!"为人(ren)君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止(zhi)于敬;为人子,止于(yu)孝;为人父,止于慈(ci);与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹人也(ye)。必也使无讼乎(hu)!"无情(qing)者(zhe)不得(de)尽其(qi)辞,大畏民志。此谓(wei)知(zhi)本。
