《诗(shi)》云:"瞻彼淇澳,侵疋⑩。有斐君子,如切(qie)如磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨(mo)。瑟兮(xi)兮(xi),赫(he)兮暄兮。有斐君子,终不(bu)可召猓""如(ru)切如磋"者(zhe),道学也。"如(ru)琢如(ru)磨"者,自修也。"瑟兮(xi)兮(xi)"者(zhe),恂(xun)也。"赫(he)兮喧兮"者,威仪(yi)也。"有斐君子,终(zhong)不可召"者,道盛德(de)至善,民(min)之不能忘(wang)也。《诗(shi)》云:"于戏前王不忘(wang)!"君子贤其贤而亲(qin)其亲,小人乐其乐而利(li)其(qi)利,此以(yi)没世(shi)不忘(wang)也。《康诰(gao)》曰:"克明德。"《大甲》曰:"顾天之(zhi)明命。"《帝(di)典》曰(yue):"克明峻德。"皆自明也。汤之(zhi)《盘(pan)铭》曰:"苟日新(xin),日(ri)日新,又(you)日(ri)新。"《康(kang)诰》曰:"作(zuo)新(xin)民。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧(jiu)邦,其命惟(wei)新(xin)。"是故君子无(wu)所(suo)不(bu)用(yong)其极。《诗》云(yun):"邦畿(ji)千(qian)里,惟民所止。"《诗(shi)》云(yun):"缗(min)蛮黄鸟,止(zhi)于丘隅。"子曰(yue):"于止,知其(qi)所止。可(ke)以人(ren)而不如(ru)鸟(niao)乎(hu)?"《诗》云(yun):"穆穆(mu)文王,于缉熙敬(jing)止!"为人君,止(zhi)于仁;为人臣,止(zhi)于敬;为(wei)人子,止于(yu)孝;为人(ren)父,止于慈;与(yu)国人交,止(zhi)于信。子曰:"听讼(song),吾犹(you)人也(ye)。必也(ye)使无(wu)讼(song)乎!"无(wu)情(qing)者不得尽(jin)其辞,大畏(wei)民(min)志。此谓知本(ben)。
