《诗》云(yun):"瞻彼淇(qi)澳(ao),侵疋⑩。有斐(fei)君子,如切如(ru)磋,如琢(zhuo)如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮(xi)暄兮(xi)。有(you)斐君(jun1)子,终不(bu)可召(zhao)猓""如切如磋(cuo)"者,道(dao)学也(ye)。"如(ru)琢如磨(mo)"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮(xi)兮"者,恂也。"赫兮喧兮(xi)"者,威仪也。"有斐(fei)君子,终不可召(zhao)"者,道(dao)盛德至善,民之(zhi)不(bu)能(neng)忘也。《诗》云:"于戏前王不忘!"君(jun1)子贤(xian)其贤而(er)亲其亲,小人乐(le)其(qi)乐(le)而(er)利其利,此(ci)以没世不忘(wang)也。《康诰》曰:"克明德。"《大甲》曰:"顾(gu)天(tian)之明(ming)命。"《帝典》曰:"克明峻(jun4)德。"皆(jie)自明也。汤之《盘铭(ming)》曰(yue):"苟日新,日(ri)日新,又(you)日新。"《康(kang)诰》曰:"作新(xin)民。"《诗(shi)》曰(yue):"周虽旧(jiu)邦,其命惟新。"是(shi)故(gu)君子(zi)无(wu)所不用其极(ji)。《诗》云:"邦畿千里,惟(wei)民所止(zhi)。"《诗》云:"缗蛮黄鸟,止于丘隅。"子曰(yue):"于止,知其所止。可以人而不(bu)如鸟乎?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆穆文(wen)王,于缉(ji)熙敬止!"为人君,止于仁(ren);为人臣(chen),止于敬(jing);为(wei)人(ren)子,止(zhi)于孝;为人父,止于(yu)慈(ci);与国人交,止于信。子曰(yue):"听讼(song),吾(wu)犹人也。必也(ye)使无讼乎!"无情者(zhe)不得尽其辞,大畏民志。此谓(wei)知本。
