《诗》云:"瞻彼淇(qi)澳(ao),侵疋⑩。有斐(fei)君子,如(ru)切如磋,如(ru)琢如磨。瑟兮兮,赫兮暄(xuan)兮。有斐君子(zi),终(zhong)不可(ke)召(zhao)猓""如切(qie)如磋"者,道学也。"如琢如磨"者,自修(xiu)也。"瑟兮兮"者,恂(xun)也。"赫兮喧兮"者,威(wei)仪也(ye)。"有斐君子,终(zhong)不可召"者,道盛德至善,民之不(bu)能忘也。《诗(shi)》云(yun):"于(yu)戏前王不忘!"君子(zi)贤其贤(xian)而(er)亲(qin)其亲,小(xiao)人乐其乐(le)而利其利,此以没(mei)世不忘(wang)也。《康诰》曰:"克明(ming)德。"《大(da)甲》曰(yue):"顾天(tian)之明命。"《帝(di)典》曰:"克明(ming)峻德。"皆自明也。汤之《盘(pan)铭》曰:"苟日新,日日(ri)新(xin),又(you)日(ri)新。"《康(kang)诰(gao)》曰(yue):"作新民(min)。"《诗(shi)》曰:"周虽旧邦(bang),其命(ming)惟(wei)新。"是故(gu)君子无(wu)所不(bu)用其极。《诗》云:"邦畿千里(li),惟民所止。"《诗》云:"缗(min)蛮黄(huang)鸟,止于丘隅。"子曰(yue):"于止,知(zhi)其所止(zhi)。可以人而不(bu)如鸟乎?"《诗(shi)》云:"穆(mu)穆(mu)文王,于缉熙敬止!"为人君,止于仁;为人臣,止于敬(jing);为(wei)人(ren)子,止于孝;为人(ren)父,止(zhi)于慈;与国人交,止于信。子曰:"听讼,吾犹(you)人也。必也(ye)使(shi)无(wu)讼(song)乎!"无(wu)情者不(bu)得尽(jin)其辞,大(da)畏民志(zhi)。此(ci)谓知(zhi)本。
